Many people talk about meditation, but aren’t really aware of what it is or how it works. I have been meditating for almost five years now and I contribute a lot of my rapid growth, perspective, and self-awareness to meditation.
Headspace, a great meditation app, offers a great explanation of meditation. “Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person. It’s about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective. You’re not trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings. You’re learning to observe them without judgment. And eventually, you may start to better understand them as well.
At the start of each season, I participate in a 21-day Meditation session with Oprah Winfrey and Deepak Chopra. This is my fifth year participating in the sessions. Everyone knows who Oprah is, but let me tell you a little about Deepak Chopra. He is the co-founder of the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, the founder of the Chopra Foundation, and a world-renowned pioneer in integrative medicine and personal transformation. He is board certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, and metabolism. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and a clinical professor in the Family Medicine and Public Health Department at the University of California, San Diego. He is the author of more than 85 books translated into over 43 languages, including numerous New York Times bestsellers.
We are currently in the midst of a 21-day session for the Summer, entitled Miraculous Relationships. I am excited about every session, and it seems as though they come at the perfect times in my life, seeing that they align with the experiences I am having at the time. Right now, I have so many amazing people in my life, and because of past hurts, I keep a million guards around my heart! I want to be able to trust again. I want to be able to forgive, surrender, and let go of things. I don’t want to let past happenings get in the way of the great things I am manifesting in my life. I know that I am not the only person experiencing this so I am going to share the topics/messages with you each day in hopes that it inspires you or helps you in your healing process.
We are currently on Day 8 today and the title is Miraculous Spirit. Today our meditation focuses on choosing to be the presence of love.
Many people think of love as an emotion that comes and goes. In one moment we feel intense love and in the next we feel nothing at all. We may then become consumed by doubts about our relationships or get caught up in an anxious search for love, striving to attract someone who will finally give us the love and approval we’ve longed for. But in truth, love isn’t a capricious emotion but a state of being. It is an experience of unity with all creation. In every moment we can choose to be the presence of love and let that love guide all our words and actions. This choice will transform all of your relationships, including the one with yourself.
